TLA Annual Conference Great Ideas Lightning Talks

Connecting to Innovate, Inspire, and Impact  The 2019 TLA Conference Program Committee is excited to announce an interesting and approachable way for you to contribute to the 2019 Texas Library Association Conference in Austin!

Have you been doing something unique and innovative in your library? Share your great ideas in the fast format of a lightning talk, combined with a poster session. Great Ideas Lighting Talks are 5 minute sessions that engage the audience and feature new or innovative ideas. You'll also be able to set up a poster or interactive display - if you spark an idea with your presentation, you'll be available to answer questions afterward.

The whole event is an hour and half - we are looking to pack this session with lots of great ideas! Consider the following areas, or let us know if you have something totally outside of the box.

New & Noteworthy -- the latest and greatest from around libraryland!
Beyond Storytime -- innovative children’s programming
Leading a Library -- library management
Exploding Boundaries -- non-traditional libraries, collections, or service
Beyond the Stacks -- outreach and marketing

Key Dates:

  • November 23, 2018: Lightning Talk proposal submission deadline
  • April 15, 2019, 4:00 - 5:30pm: During this time, participants will discuss their work with conference attendees.

Please note:

  • Conference registration is not required for participation in this one event only.
  • Posters may be print, electronic or both. Props may also be used.
  • All posters must be freestanding; no poster backing will be provided.
  • Laptops and tablets are welcome, but no electricity will be provided.
  • The Poster Session will not be judged this year, but small prizes will be drawn randomly from all entries.

Our goal is to share information and opportunities. Proposals may be submitted here.

Please have all proposals submitted by November 23, 2018.

Proposals will be selected for participation based on the following criteria:

  • The clarity and originality of the proposal
  • Relevance to the conference theme

If you have any additional questions, please contact John Marino.
