Welcome! The 2X2 Committee‘s charge is to produce a list of 20 recommended books for children, age two to grade two. You can help with our statewide promotion of the reading list by introducing it in the following locations: • Public libraries • School libraries • Primary care facilities • Day care centers • Early childhood centers • Hospitals • Women, Infant and Children (WIC) sites • Health Department Clinics • Head Start locations.

The master list books, all recommended by one or more reviewing sources, should be evaluated in terms of each library’s selection policy. It is not mandatory that a school or public library purchase all titles listed.

2x2 at the Texas Book Festival

Just wanted to let everyone know that the 2x2 Committee members will be at the Texas Book Festival on Saturday afternoon in the Children's Tent area. Let your parents, students, and anyone else know that they will be able to find some of their favorite 2013 2x2 books there along with some great fun activities.

2x2 and blue bonnet

I do both with my students. My 3-5 start reading the books in October (or as soon as I get my order in). They vote in January and I am registared for voting. My K-2 start reading the books in October as well. I have a school vote in May and announce the winner on the P.A. system. I also have prizes for the number of books read. The prizes are the same for 5-15 books read. My 3-5 get to go to Peter Piper Pizza and my K-2 will get pizza and a movie at the school if they read all 20 books.

2x2 instead of bluebonnet

Our school is a 2nd-5th grade campus. Everyone except the 2nd grade votes for bluebonnet. Our 2nd graders were feeling a little left out, so we selected five of the 2x2 books from this year and the past years and occasionally read them to our 2nd graders. While "the big kids" were voting for bluebonnet, the 2nd grade voted for the " Best of 2X2" award. Weiner Wolf won with The Astonishing Secret of Awesome Man a close 2nd. The rest of the year, 2nd graders may suggest titles for next year's list. We plan to use ten books next year and get an earlier start.

Thanks for letting us know

There are undoubtedly other school librarians that can benefit from this idea.
