Application for CULD MLIS Scholarship

CULD is pleased to offer an academic scholarship award of $500 to assist one library school student with the costs of attending graduate school in pursuit of a Master's- or Ph.D.-level library or information science degree. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage student membership in TLA and CULD, and support students intending to become academic librarians.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Applicants must reside in Texas and attend an ALA-accredited library education program in pursuit of a library or information science degree. Full-time and part-time student applicants are welcome.
    • Applicants must be current, paid members of TLA and CULD. To apply for a student membership, please follow this link:
    • Applicants must demonstrate commitment to academic librarianship, and have a vision for their future.
    • Applicants must possess good written communication skills.

In addition to meeting these criteria, the successful applicant agrees to serve on the CULD Scholarship Committee for the following year. Attendance at Annual Assembly and Annual Conference are encouraged, but not required.

Please submit the following application materials in one file by email to the Committee Chair, Donell Callender, Texas Tech University Libraries,, no later than February 2, 2018:

    • Resume
    • Unofficial graduate transcripts for current library degree program
    • 2 letters of recommendation, preferably from employers or professors

Applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee.


Melody Kelly CULD Support Staff Stipend for TLA Conference

CULD offers a stipend award of $210 to assist one division member in a support staff position with registration at the Texas Library Association Annual Conference. The purpose of the stipend is to encourage support staff membership in TLA and CULD.

The support staff member needs to be: employed in an academic library in Texas, a member of TLA and CULD, must attend the CULD meeting at the TLA conference to be recognized as the stipend recipient, and must agree to serve on the Stipend Selection Committee for the next year's award.
