What trends do you see in the library market?
Today’s school library market is presently enduring the largest paradigm shift it has experienced since the introduction of the stand-alone online automated catalog. K-12 school libraries are being challenged to remain relevant in the digital world and I believe that this is the very biggest opportunity ever for school libraries and professional school librarians to showcase their importance and relevancy within the educational process.

Teacher Librarians must seize the moment and take the lead as purveyors of knowledge and vital information sources and resources that will serve to accelerate and increase the ability of every classroom teacher and administrator to improve and enhance learning.

In response, Mackin has created and supports their new initiative, Transform Your School Library (TYSL). This movement serves as a common ground for librarians and educators to share ideas, concepts and practices that support the concept of change in the library. TYSL recently published their second edition of Transform and Thrive, which is a collection of testimonials, ideas, and insights from some of the nation’s most prominent educational thought leaders on how to creatively, economically, and successfully transform a school library program into one that meets the needs of 21st-century learners. What motivates you to be a member of TLA?
All of us at Mackin have been motivated for almost twenty years to support and be active members because TLA makes a real difference. TLA is the future of education in Texas and educators across the nation look to TLA members as exemplary leaders with real passion and an endless dedication to children and students of all ages.
