Be a Conference Volunteer

APRIL 14: Please stop by the volunteer counter in the registration area at the convention center in Austin if you submitted the form recently and have not heard from the volunteer coordinators.

Volunteers should be willing to volunteer for a minimum of two consecutive hours. While librarians must be registered for the conference, paraprofessionals and support staff who are not registered for the conference will receive a complimentary exhibits-only pass with four hours of volunteer service.


Please note the duties, skills, and physical requirements needed for the various volunteer positions as listed on the Volunteer Duties page.

Authors Autographing Area - Manage access to authors (e.g. organize people in lines within policies)
Career Development Center (formerly Placement Center) - Assists with questions and inquiries.
Connection Corner (formerly Internet Room) - Assists with a range of technical issues and with personal devices and the mobile app.
Disaster Relief Raffle Tickets - Cover desk by selling tickets, handling cash box.
Entertainment - Assist with details for conference parties and book cart competition.
Exhibits - Cover desk by registering exhibitors & authors, answering questions, providing directions.
Health (Fun Run) - Monitor event and provide assistance (e.g., setting up refreshments, monitoring routes, taking pictures, distributing awards, etc.)
Hospitality - Assists in distributing speakers gifts to program planners.
Information - Cover Information Desk in registration by answering phontes & posting messages, distributing Fun Run packets, & managing Lost & Found.
Meeting Room Assistance - Manage access by staffing volunteer stations, checking room set-ups, distributing signs, counting attendees, & solving problems.
PR & Marketing Committee Kiosk - Help the PR & Marketing committee spread the word about Power Up at Your Library Week, distribute promotional giveaways, and collect raffle names.
Registration - Cover desk by distributing badges & programs, greeting attendees, answering questions.
TLA Store - Assists with the replenishing merchandise, answering questions, packing up inventory at the close of the conference, and problem solving.
Transportation - Manage access and provide information about the routes at hotels and destinations; staff outdoor table and provide directions upon requests.
Volunteer Check-in - Assists with checking in conference volunteers.
Ambassador - The TLA Ambassadors will assist conference attendees with directions and information at the sprawling Dallas Convention Center, which is undergoing repairs in some areas. They will receive information from the Local Arrangements Committee in order to help their Texas library colleagues to navigate the building, the conference, and downtown Dallas..
