Conference News & Updates

April 2, 2020 – The deadline to request a refund, or apply your TLA 2020 Houston registration to TLA 2021 has passed. Any TLA 2020 registrations which did not complete the online form by the April 1 deadline will be applied to TLA 2020 Virtual. Refunds are being processed in batches, and all refunds will be completed by July 31, 2020.

March 20, 2020 – TLA 2020 Virtual will launch in mid-to-late-April. This exciting opportunity not only enables those registered for TLA 2020 in Houston to obtain their essential professional development, but also means those who have not been able to attend TLA conferences in person due to time, distance, or budget constraints can participate and reap the benefits of a TLA conference.

TLA 2020 Virtual will feature a live keynote session, pre-recorded featured author sessions, opportunities for online collaboration and networking, exhibitor information and resources, and multiple pre-recorded education sessions. The recorded content will be available for you to watch at any time that is convenient for you.

Once TLA 2020 Virtual is open, all sessions will be available for 30 days for attendees to watch on-demand. Virtual conference participants will be able to earn SCBEC and TSLAC continuing education credits by watching educational sessions.  For those who are not registered for TLA 2020, registration for the virtual event will open in April.

March 12, 2020 – First of all, the TLA staff would like to express our gratitude for all the heartfelt messages of support we have received in the wake of the decision to cancel the TLA 2020 Houston in-person conference because of the COVID-19 epidemic.

The TLA Annual Conference represents 80 percent of our organization’s annual revenue, and the greater the number of registrants who opt to attend the virtual conference or use their registration fee toward the 2021 conference, the higher the likelihood that we will come through this crisis intact and able to serve our members with the service and quality we have traditionally provided. TLA is an advocate for librarians of all types throughout Texas. We have long been both the voice and the heart of the Texas library community and hope to continue in that role for many years.

We have several options for TLA 2020 Houston registered attendees to recoup the value of your registration fees.

  1. Use your in-person registration fee to participate in our TLA 2020 Virtual conference.
  2. Apply your TLA 2020 Houston registration fee to TLA 2021 in San Antonio.
  3. Request a refund. 100 percent of your registration fee is refundable. You can also receive a 100 percent refund for all ticketed events and exhibits-only passes. Please allow time to process these requests. Our goal is to honor all refund requests by the end of July.

Important: you must choose an option by April 1. After April 1, these choices are no longer available.

We hope you will select option 1 or 2, and consider making an additional donation to TLA.

Please complete this form by April 1, 2020.

Thank you for your patience and ongoing support as we work through the logistics involved in transitioning to TLA 2020 Virtual, and canceling the Houston event.

March 11, 2020 – Due to the World Health Organization’s declaration of a global pandemic, and the disaster declaration in Harris County, we are unable to perform to the high standards expected for a TLA event. Therefore, with a heavy heart, the TLA Executive Board made the difficult decision today to transition to a streamlined, virtual event and cancel TLA 2020 activities in Houston to protect the health and safety of our members, attendees, sponsors and exhibitors.

The logistics of the virtual event are still being discussed. Currently, we plan to offer pre-recorded programs online for registered attendees to view on demand. Continuing education credits will be available. Registration will be applied to the TLA 2020 Virtual event.

While we are devastated that the TLA 2020 event will not take place in Houston, we are excited to offer a quality professional development experience to the library community.

More information about TLA 2020 Virtual will be shared as soon as it is finalized. Check the TLA conference news page for updates.

On behalf of the TLA executive board and staff, thank you for your continued support and understanding. Please be patient with us as we work through this unprecedented situation.
