TLA Scholarships

Supporting library education, encouraging future librarians.

To apply for the TLA scholarships listed here, complete the online application and submit no later than February 2. All applicants must be Texas residents, members of TLA, and have a google account (in order to upload required application documents). Google accounts may be created for free.

Applications and letters of recommendation for all awards and scholarships must be submitted by February 2, 2019 to be considered. All applicants will be notified about their awards and scholarships status by March 31, 2019.

Ray C. Janeway Scholarship: $2,000

  • Texas resident;
  • Attained at least a B average during the last two years of a baccalaureate program;
  • Accepted as a graduate student at a Texas ALA-accredited library education program.

TLA Summer School Scholarship: $500

  • Texas resident;
  • Attained at least a B average during the last two years of a baccalaureate degree program;
  • Must be registered for MLS degree courses during a summer session at a Texas ALA-accredited library education program. (While applicants may be enrolled year round, the scholarship applies only to the summer session.)

Van Dusen-Kaiser-Halley Scholarship: $1,000 (Awarded in even-numbered years)

  • Texas resident;
  • Pursuing graduate studies leading to a career as an elementary school or children’s librarian;
  • Attained at least a B average during the last two years of a baccalaureate degree program;
  • Accepted as a graduate student at a Texas ALA-accredited library education program;
  • Awarded in even-numbered years.

Vivian Greenfield Award: $1,500

  • Texas resident;
  • TLA member in good standing;
  • Supporting educational endeavors reinforcing work with youth. This can include, but is not limited to professional development activities (like taking a course or attending a conference), implementing a new idea in the workplace, performing a study, and more.

Walter H. Escue Memorial Scholarship: $1,000

  • Texas resident;
  • Concentrating studies in Technical Services, Systems Administration, or Library Automation;
  • Attained at least a B average during the last two years of a baccalaureate degree program;
  • Accepted as a graduate student at a Texas ALA-accredited library education program.
