Navigating & Understanding Library Budgets Amid Economic Uncertainty
June 23, 2020 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Ask our experts anything! While every organization’s budget is different, they all share common elements and processes – from multiple funding sources, to allocations and structure, to decision-making and prioritization. This interactive discussion will demystify budgets and help librarians understand potential impacts on budgets during this time of economic uncertainty, where they fit in that process, and what questions they can ask ‘up’. This session will address budgets in all types of libraries and offer discussion on topics such as:
- What the COVID-19 driven economic crisis could mean to your library
- Targeted funding for school libraries and advocating for the librarian/library’s value to superintendents and administrators
- Examples of budget planning practices and processes from the panelists’ institutions
- Limits on what funds can be spent on.
Hosted by Dan Burgard, University of North Texas Health Science Center; Diane Bruxvoort, University of North Texas Libraries; Kate Horan, McAllen Public Library; and Vanessa Ashcraft, Jarrell ISD.
