TLA plans to host additional webinars on SB 13. You can also find information, including an extensive SB 13 FAQ document, on the SB 13 implementation page on txla.org.
SB 13 is effective September 1, and school districts are expected to have an acquisition policy in place by the time the school year begins. Districts are required to post the list of library materials to be purchased for a 30-day public comment period, and school boards must approve the list before purchases are made. If districts have a Local School Library Advisory Council, the council must also review the purchase list and make recommendations to the board.
How will local district policies need to change? What procedures are school librarians developing to facilitate these new requirements while still ensuring that purchases can be made in a timely manner? Joy Baskin, AED and Education Counsel, Texas Association of School Boards (TASB); Emma McDonald, Library Media Services Director; and Amanda Trowbridge, Facilitator of Library Services will share insights into policy updates, purchasing procedures, and collection development.
Cost: Free for TLA members; $40 for nonmembers
Time: 3:30 – 4:30pm (central)
NOTE: This webinar will not be recorded. Presentation materials will be shared with registered attendees after the session.
