The Texas Library Association’s Young Adult Round Table (YART) is pleased to announce the much-anticipated 2019 Lone Star, Maverick, TAYSHAS and Spirit of Texas Reading Lists are now available. Books are selected for the lists by public and school librarians who are members of YART.

The Lone Star Reading List encourages students in grades 6 – 8 to explore a variety of current books.  The Maverick Graphic Novel Reading List promotes recreational reading for students in grades 6 – 12.

TAYSHAS takes its name from the Caddo Indian word meaning “friends or allies. The TAYSHAS Reading List includes fiction and nonfiction titles, and seeks to motivate students in grades 9 – 12 to read for pleasure.

The Spirit of Texas (SPOT) High-School and Middle School Reading Programs hope to develop young readers’ appreciation for the literary works of, and about Texas and Texans.  They are designed to encourage youths in grades 6 – 8, and grades 9 – 12 to explore a variety of current, quality books from Texas authors and illustrators, develop critical reading skills, and to encourage greater interaction between Texas authors and illustrators, Texas librarians, and Texas youth.
