Graphic novels are engaging and powerful, combining images and text to draw in readers and keep them enthralled. They welcome everyone into a reading conversation, inviting in reluctant readers and English as a Second Language students and giving dyslexic students multiple clues to the storyline.

There are so many delightful titles on this list! Young readers will find their tummies rumbling after reading the adventures of El Toro and Friends in Tacos Today by Raul the Third. Both younger and older readers can learn fascinating facts about the deepest part of the ocean in The Deep!: Wild Life at the Ocean’s Darkest Depths by Lindsey Leigh.

The 2024 Little Maverick Graphic Novel Reading List is a recommended reading list of graphic novels designed for children in grades K-5. These books were selected by public and school librarians who are members of the Texas Library Association’s Children’s Round Table, which promotes services to children and young people.

FULL LIST

The Little Maverick Reading List is not designed to support any particular curriculum. Librarians are not required or expected to purchase every book on the list. Due to the diversity in age range and topics, librarians should follow their local collection development policies and guidelines when considering which titles to purchase for their library.
