The Texas Library Association (TLA) was honored to be selected as the beneficiary of H-E-B’s Summer at the Library check stand donation campaign. This year, H-E-B customers donated a total of $375,000 to support summer programming for children at Texas libraries. Thank  you to everyone that donated and helped  us spread the word about this exciting opportunity for Texas libraries!

“On behalf of TLA’s more than 5,000 member librarians from across Texas, I am so grateful for this opportunity from H-E-B,” said Shirley Robinson, TLA Executive Director. “The results exceeded every expectation, and we can’t wait to see the amazing programs Texas libraries will be able to offer their communities thanks to this support.”

Summer programming in libraries not only helps children retain the skills gained in the classroom, avoiding the “summer slide,” but also encourages reading for pleasure as a lifelong habit, and draws reluctant readers into the library with engaging activities. These programs are essential to building literacy skills.

“Activities that support childhood literacy are imperative to combatting summer slide. H-E-B is proud to partner with TLA in helping libraries across Texas provide engaging, educational summer activities for children in a safe environment,” said Christa Carreño Aldrich, H-E-B Public Affairs Manager.

TLA and H-E-B share a long-standing commitment to literacy, recognizing that it opens the door to opportunities in education, career development, and personal growth and success.  The funds raised by this campaign will make a tremendous difference in the services libraries can provide to their communities in the summer months.
