1. What inspired you to become a librarian?

Prior to becoming a school librarian, I was an English Language Arts & Reading teacher. I worked at campuses that didn’t have a full-time certified librarian. I knew how much my students were missing out on and I wanted to create the kind of space they deserved: inclusive, creative, and full of opportunity. Becoming a librarian allowed me to merge my passion for reading, technology, and student-centered education into one role where I could make a lasting impact.

2. What is an innovative practice at your library/organization (current or former) that you would like to share with others?

Two of the most impactful and innovative programs at my library are the Library Ambassador Program and our Esports League. Both are entirely student-centered and student-led, giving learners voice, leadership opportunities, and ownership of the library. These programs have built strong community connections and helped students see the library as theirs.

3. If you could have dinner with three authors (living or dead), who would they be and why?

4. What are you reading right now?

It’s summer, so I finally have time to catch up on my  To Be Read (TBR) pile—and I tend to read several books at once. Right now, I’m reading The Crash, The Tenant, and The Perfect Son by Freida McFadden, as well as Hikari-Man Volumes 1–2 by Hideo Yamamoto.

5. What is your most memorable Texas Library Association Experience?

My first TLA conference in 2016 was unforgettable. I met some of my favorite authors in person and finally connected face-to-face with librarians I had been engaging with online. It felt like finding my professional family.

6. Advice to new librarians?

Don’t be afraid to advocate for your students, the library space, and for yourself. Your voice matters. Speak up, show up, and let your passion drive your work.

7. Share your hobbies, hidden talents, or anything people might not know about you.

I collect vinyl records and tarot cards, and I’ve played guitar since I was 10, including classical guitar in college. These days, I’ve swapped the electric guitar for a ukulele and still love finding ways to bring music into my work and life.

8. Please finish this sentence. “I am a TLA member because…”

I’m part of the best librarian association ever! TLA has built a powerful, supportive network of librarians who are innovative, dynamic, knowledgeable, and true experts in the field.
