December Staff Spotlight: Michelle Cruz
In our new TLA Staff Spotlight series, you will meet a member of our team each month. It’s part of our effort to make sure you know who the TLA staff is, so you’re more familiar with us when you need to contact us. We love to hear from members!
Name: Michelle Cruz
Position: Meetings and Events Manager
Year started: 2019
What are your job responsibilities at TLA? I am responsible for all coordination and logistical arrangements for the TLA Annual Conference, Annual Assembly, District Meetings, TCAL Conference and other face-to-face and digital education programs.
Tell us three things about yourself. I’m an introvert. I majored in art history and philosophy and minored in psychology at St. Edward’s University. I like to keep active by hiking, doing obstacle races/mud runs, and volunteering on disaster response operations with Team Rubicon.
What’s a book, movie, album or podcast you enjoyed recently that you’d recommend and why? I just watched Dr. Death, on Peacock TV. It’s so disturbing and devastating to know that it’s based on a true story. How can someone be that destructive?!
What’s your favorite place in Texas? My sister’s house in Belton. I love spending time with her and my sweet nephews – playing video games, working out in their home gym, movie nights and themed parties, and eating delicious vegan meals!
What is your favorite part about your job? I love everything! It’s challenging and entertaining and allows me to travel to different cities in Texas. Every day, I learn something new from my co-workers and TLA members.
