May Staff Spotlight: Casey Rice
In our TLA Staff Spotlight series, we will highlight a different Texas Library Association staff member each month. It’s part of our effort to make sure you know who the TLA staff is, so you’re more familiar with us when you need to contact us. We love to hear from members!
Name: Casey Rice
Position: Exhibits and Sponsorship Coordinator
What are your job responsibilities at TLA?
I’m responsible for ensuring exhibitors and sponsors have everything they need for conference in order to have a positive and successful experience with TLA, each year and hopefully for years to come.
Tell us three things about yourself:
- I love snowboarding.
- I have two dogs who I love.
- I have snorkeled with whale sharks out in the Gulf and loved every minute of it.
What’s a book, movie, album or podcast you enjoyed recently that you’d recommend and why?
One book that I love and have read three times now is Surfing the Himalayas by Frederick Lenz. It’s a mind-opening read that takes you on the author’s journey leaving Western society behind to snowboard the Himalayas, not knowing his journey will suddenly take a turn when he befriends a Buddhist monk. This book has really taught me to find balance within myself.
What’s your favorite place in Texas?
Out West from Austin, over by Lago Vista and Marble Falls. The hiking and scenery are breathtaking.
What was your favorite part about TLA 2022 Annual Conference?
Besides getting to really dive into the core of what my position entails as the Exhibits and Sponsorship Coordinator, I think one of my favorite parts about conference was seeing Alyssa Edwards come and support local and school librarians.
