2022 Annual Assembly | July 6 – 8

This year’s in-person Annual Assembly is slightly modified from previous years. Participants will include members of the TLA 2023 Conference Planning Committee, TLA Council, and TLA Executive Board; and Unit Officers and Standing Committee Chairs.

All unit and committee business meetings will be held virtually before June 30 to maintain equity and access, and encourage increased engagement for TLA members.

Leading by Example: Effective TLA Officer Governance Best Practices
Serving as a TLA Unit Officer is a significant responsibility as well as a valuable opportunity to hone your leadership skills and add to your professional experience. In this session, TLA Executive Director Shirley Robinson will cover day-to-day best practices to help make your term as an officer more efficient and effective. We’ll explore concepts to help your unit’s membership and leadership team build engagement, satisfaction, and nurture future talent for succession. Participants will be able to share their experiences with meetings and group leadership dynamics with peers in this fun, fast-moving 75-minute session.

TLA Officers: Get Connected and Stay Engaged!
TLA Officers will learn how to best communicate with members and how to manage unit business affairs. Presenters will do an in-depth overview of TLA Engage, the online communication platform for TLA members, as well as explore the TLA Google Drives where officers will find all previous unit/committee documents. We’ll talk about the TLA Officer newsletter and Officer Office Hours. In addition, we’ll go over TLA’s communication channels  (social media, TLACast, Texas Library Journal, Libraries Transform Texas podcast) and how to share ideas and news in these channels. Bring your laptop or tablet.

TLA Unit Financials 101: A Comprehensive Overview
This clear and detailed session will provide a better understanding of how TLA’s financials work and what your financial responsibilities are as a TLA Unit Officer. Presenters will walk you through the new budget process and will explain submitting reimbursements, understanding your unit’s financial statements, using TLA’s tax-exemption status, providing stipends, submitting speaker honorariums, membership dues allocation, the process for unit sponsorships, and tips to increase revenue for your unit. This one-hour session is packed with useful financial information to help you succeed in your role as a TLA Unit Officer.

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Training Part 2
Mariama Boney, president and CEO of Achieve More LLC, will lead this EDI training session, part two of the officer training offered at TLA 2022. The two hour session will be divided into two sections:

Challenges & Opportunities for Member Engagement
During this interactive session, attendees will share what has worked and what challenges they’ve faced in getting members engaged with the work of the unit or committee.

Advancing an Inclusive Unit/Committee
During this portion, we’ll address the dynamics of inclusive leadership and allyship to enhance teamwork. Includes content, scenarios, reflection and more.
