Requirements & Curriculum

TALL Texans Institute pre-requisites, topics, and related projects.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of experience working in libraries (in any library, at any level; service need not be in any single library and can be over any amount of time). Degree in library science is not required.
  • Completion of the online application form (form opens on October 1), new due date of
  • Membership in the Texas Library Association by the application deadline.
  • Desire to improve yourself, libraries, and communities; ability to turn training into action.
  • $995 registration fee, which includes all instruction, classroom materials, and room & board. Transportation is not included.

  • Developing others: empowerment, motivation, coaching, mentoring
  • Planning career and leadership development

Timeline of the application process (UPDATED)

  • October 1 – Application form open for the next year (2o21 applications opened on Oct. 1, 2020)
  • April 1, 2021 – Applications DUE
  • May 1, 2021 – Selection Committee finalizes roster
  • May 15, 2021 – All applicants informed of status by this date
  • July-October 2021 – 3 preliminary webinars will be scheduled for participants in this time
  • November 14-18, 2021 – TALL Texans takes place in person at Montserrat Retreat Center, Lake Dallas

Projects Initiated at the Institute

  • Graphic – Each class also traditionally designs a graphic representing their unique week. The decision process for this design employs the leadership skills learned during the week. The art has usually adorned a T-shirt, but now through Cafe Press, participants can put the design on different items like tote bags, hats, and mousepads as well as shirts.
  • Personal Action Agenda – Learning does not end at the conclusion of the Institute. Each individual will have two years to complete two projects for their home institution.
  • Photo album – Many classes also choose to design a photo album with pictures of the participants and instructors during the week. A link will be provided for uploading photos. Each participant has the option to buy their own copy of the album, which usually runs about $35.
