TLA Summit

A virtual professional education conference on June 2, 2022

TLA Summit provides a unique vantage point to view the vast and ever-evolving landscape of library work.

This one-day virtual conference, held on June 2, offered sessions for every type of librarian – school, public, academic and special. Attendees can earn up to 40 hours of CE credit. All sessions are available for viewing until July 3, so you’ll be able to view them at the times that work best for you.

Topics include youth services programs, opening new public library locations, STEM courses, change management, and local, state and national OER (open educational resources) efforts. You’ll learn about serving neurodiverse clients in “Beyond Sensory Storytime” and several other sessions; and how to respond to censorship challenges. Academic librarians will present about doing an organizational overhaul at your academic library and share strategies for addressing imposter syndrome. Longtime TALL Texans instructor Maureen Sullivan leads a session on “Using Your Personal Power.” Check out all our speakers here.

Bestselling novelist Sarah Bird was our opening keynote speaker. The author of 11 books, including Daughter of a Daughter of a QueenThe Yokota Officer’s ClubA Love Letter to Texas WomenAbove the East China Sea, and many more, joined us to talk about her newest novel, Last Dance on the Starlight Pier, which brings to life the fascinating, Mafia-run world that was Galveston in the 1930s. She was in conversation with Kristen Fournier, librarian at Forest North Elementary, Round Rock ISD.

Our closing keynote speaker was Dr. Seema Yasmin, who discussed trends in social media and combating misinformation in her talk, “What the Fact?! How social media is rewiring our brains and changing the world.” Dr. Yasmin is an Emmy-award-winning journalist, author, medical doctor and professor.

TLA Summit: Finding and printing your CE certificates

Log in into your Members Only account with your email address and password. On the right-hand side, click the link that says CPE Credit listed under the Meetings column. Click on 2022 Summit listed under Past Meetings, then click the CPE Credits Button. (See image below).
Please choose from the list of sessions you attended and click “Submit Application” at the bottom. Print or save the certificate for your completed CPE Credit.

TLA Summit Cancellation Policy

Cancellations received on or before May 1, 2022 will receive a refund, less a 20% administrative fee. Registrations made after May 1, 2022 are non-refundable. All cancellations must be made in writing (email) to TLA on or before May 1, 2022. No phone request can be accepted.

Transfers of registrations to another individual must be made in writing (email) by May 31, 2022 to Christy Reynolds. No phone requests can be accepted. The individual submitting the substitution request is responsible for all financial obligations (any balance due) associated with that substitution.

TLA reserves the right to cancel all or any part of this event if there is insufficient registration or for other reasons. If TLA must cancel the event, TLA will transfer the registration to a similar virtual or in-person event(s) of equal or greater value than the original registration price paid within the 2022 calendar year.
