Each year, the committee creates a list of notable fiction books of up to 25 titles. The books must be published in the current and previous year to be included in the list. (i.e. 2017 -2018 for the 2019 list). The list brings attention to outstanding fiction that merits special attention from readers.
Collection Development Statement
The Lariat List is not designed to support any particular curriculum. Librarians are not required or expected to purchase every book on the list. Due to the diversity in age range and topics, librarians should follow their local collection development policies and guidelines when considering which titles to purchase for their library.
To select a recommended fiction reading list designed for (but not limited to) adult readers of Texas from books published in the current and previous year to the list being published and to annotate said list.
The annual list of Lariat award winners is compiled for use by the general reader and librarians who work with adult readers. Its purpose is to call attention to outstanding fiction published during the year that merit special attention from readers.
