Longtime TLA member Jeanette Larson and her architect husband, Jim, established this fund to help a public library or public library branch annually acquire materials in the mystery genre to delight their customers. Application is open to any public library in the state of Texas, including individual branch libraries of a larger library system. The number and amount of awards will depend upon the net income produced by the established fund. At least one grant of $500 is awarded annually.According to the Grant Program, funds awarded will be used solely for the purchase of library material identified in the mystery genre of fiction.

This fund was established to perpetuate Christina Woll’s love of reading and commitment to providing quality literature for children. Based on the merits of individual applications, awards of up to $1,000 will be granted PRIOR to the TLA Annual Conference to Texas school or public libraries that demonstrate one or more of the following: A commitment to providing a collection of quality children’s literature. A need to develop or enhance a particular part of the overall collection. A need to develop or enhance a particular program. A need to support a particular part of the curriculum.

Through recognition and ceremony, to make good ideas and practices of an innovative program visible and, thereby, enlarge the history of choices and alternatives that others can draw upon to design programs to fit the unique characteristics of their own institutions and the communities they serve. The Demco/Upstart Innovative Programming Award recognizes two libraries – one school and one for all other library types (i.e., public, academic, special) that have implemented innovative programs that other organizations can drawn upon, adapted, replicated and scaled to fit the unique characteristics of their institutions and the communities they serve. Each winning library receives a $1,000 check.

Upstart Grant

Through recognition and ceremony, to make good ideas and practices of an innovative program visible and, thereby, enlarge the history of choices and alternatives that others can draw upon to design programs to fit the unique characteristics of their own institutions and the communities they serve. The Demco/Upstart Innovative Programming Award recognizes two libraries – one school and one for all other library types (i.e., public, academic, special) that have implemented innovative programs that other organizations can drawn upon, adapted, replicated and scaled to fit the unique characteristics of their institutions and the communities they serve. Each winning library receives a $1,000 check. Application Guidelines Texas libraries of any size or type are eligible and are encouraged to apply. Two awards are available, one for school libraries and the second for all other library types (i.e., public, academic, special). Applicants may apply for only one of the awards. The program must have been in existence for a minimum of one year by the application deadline and should have been initiated no more than three years ago. In other words, for a project to qualify for the 2025 award, it must have started after February 2022 but before February 2024. A library may apply as often as desired but may not submit an application for a previous Upstart winning program.
