In our new TLA Staff Spotlight series, you will meet a member of our team each month.  It’s part of our effort to make sure you know who the TLA staff is, so you’re more familiar with us when you need to contact us. We love to hear from members!

Name: Wendy Woodland

Position: Director, Advocacy & Communications

Year started: 2016

What are your job responsibilities at TLA? I provide strategic and management oversight of TLA’s federal and state advocacy efforts and lead a fantastic team to create and implement communications, marketing, and member engagement strategies to empower our members to be the best at what they do.

Tell us three things about yourself:  I am a devoted (some haters may say obnoxious) LSU Tiger fan – Geaux Tigers! My dogs, Izze and Luna, and a cat, Boudreaux rule my house.  I love, love going out to hear live music and have season tickets to Broadway in Austin.

What’s a book, movie, album or podcast you enjoyed recently that you’d recommend and why? I’ve been on a biography kick lately and just finished Leonardo da Vinci by Walter Isaacson. The author wrote about da Vinci’s fascination with science well as his amazing artistic talent. Da Vinci’s endless curiosity about everything in his world reminded me to stay curious, ask questions, and be open to new ideas. You never know where inspiration will come from!

What’s your favorite place in Texas? It’s a toss-up between the beach and Fredericksburg wineries. And while I can’t say it is a favorite since I’ve never been there, Big Bend is on my list of must-do Texas adventures!

What is your favorite part about your job? Learning about the amazing work that librarians do every day to serve our communities and sharing those stories. TLA members are inspiring!
