H-E-B Summer at the Library Grant Opens This September

Texas libraries can begin planning for summer earlier than ever. The Texas Library Association is moving the H-E-B Summer at the Library Grant application cycle to the fall, giving libraries additional time to secure funding, plan programs, and prepare for a successful summer.

Applications for the 2027 H-E-B Summer at the Library Grant opened September 15, 2026, and close January 15, 2027.

Since the grant program launched, 149 Texas libraries have received a combined $620,295 to support summer programming that encourages reading, learning, creativity, and community engagement. These grants have helped libraries of all sizes offer meaningful experiences for children, teens, and families throughout the summer.

The new application schedule gives libraries several additional months to prepare before summer programming begins. Earlier funding decisions allow recipients to:

• Plan and budget for summer programs
• Schedule performers, presenters, and community partners
• Purchase supplies and materials in advance
• Promote programs earlier to their communities
