The Texas Youth Creators Awards (formerly known as the Texas Media Awards) celebrate creativity and innovation in media production by school-aged Texas residents. Established in 1988, this annual statewide competition highlights the importance of media literacy and lifelong learning through student-led projects across ten creative categories. By showcasing original student work, the awards recognize not only the talent of young Texans but also the vital role of librarians in guiding students through the creative and ethical use of digital tools and media platforms.
  • Texas residents between the ages of 4 and 20.

  • Participants must be sponsored by a public or school librarian, who submits the entry on the student’s behalf.

  • Judged by a panel of impartial, qualified volunteers.

  • Each category has established judging criteria.

  • Judges cannot score entries from students they have mentored.

  • Medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and honorable mentions.

  • Top overall entry receives the Bob Bennett “Best of Show” Award.

  • Winners are announced and honored at the TLA Annual Conference.

Submissions are judged within the following grade-level divisions:

Prek-2

Grades 3-5

Grades 6-8

Grades 9-12

Each category has specific guidelines. Please review category-specific instructions before submitting.

All submissions for the 2026 TYCA Awards must be submitted by January 31, 2026.
